Guardian Rumour Mill

John Ashdown

The Mill is not a happy Mill this fine Tuesday. The Mill has been a Victim of Crime. Theft, to be exact – to whit, one bicycle wheel, pilfered by persons unknown and forcing the Mill to get the bus to Guardian Towers rather than enjoy the usual thrill of the pedalled commute. It’s an inconvenience, an annoyance. But the Mill says this to the thief: listen, and understand. The Rumour Mill is out there. It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. AND IT ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT STOP, EVER, UNTIL YOU ARE DEAD.

Well, that escalated quickly. But then these things often do. Take Manchester United’s pursuit of jinking Brazilian hair model Neymar. Just when you think that a £140m bid is enough to trigger the Barcelona man’s buyout, it turns out that the whole thing is going to cost you £240m! Today’s tabloid tittle-tattle puts the total price for the 23-year-old at a staggering £240m … and United are apparently willing to pay it.

Brazil’s GloboEsporte reckons United have already offered the £140m required to spring Neymar from Camp Nou and you can stick another £100m on that in tax, wages and add-ons.

The Mirror report that Arsène Wenger is on “red alert” – which, as we all know, comes right after blue alert although it does mean changing the bulb – over a move for Edinson Cavani. Karim Benzema has said “Merci mais non merci” to the prospect of a move to north London so Arsenal have turned to the Uruguayan currently meh-ing his way through a spell at Paris Saint-Germain.

Chelsea are to push ahead with a £70m offer for midfield destroyer/creator Paul Pogba despite Juventus being about as keen to part with their prize asset as a wolfhound who’s found a particularly pungent bone. To make themselves feel better, Chelsea will head to Croatia for some retail therapy and sign Hajduk Split goalkeeper Lovre Kalinic instead.

West Ham’s attacking ranks are currently in the same sort of state as Murphy after the opening scene of Robocop. Slaven Bilic wants a striker and that pressing need means they win today’s Team Linked With The Most Players At Once Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence. Firstly, a loan deal for Tottenham’s Emmanuel Adebayor could be back on, as long as Spurs cough up for a portion of his wages.

But the Hammers are also keen on Toulouse’s Wissam Ben Yedder, Galatasaray’s Buruk Yilmaz and Juventus’s Simone Zara. And that’s not all – Bilic is also kicking the tyres of Chelsea’s Victor Moses, Tottenham’s Aaron Lennon and Manchester United’s Janet Jazz Jazz Jam. Just for good measure, they’re also lining up a return for QPR goalkeeper Robert Green.

Galatasaray have all but sealed a deal for Manchester City defender Jason Denayer [No they haven’t – Homonym Ed], while Napoli’s Jonathan De Guzman has turned down a move to Sunderland.

Norwich City’s search for a striker has led them all the way to Crystal Palace’s Glenn Murray. They’ll offer £5m for the 31-year-old. And if that doesn’t work, well then they’ll turn their attentions to Wolves and England Under-21 frontman Benik Afobe.

Champions League-chasing Leicester City are back in for Birmingham tyro Demarai Gray and they’ll make another move to sign Copenhagen’s Daniel Amartey before deadline day.

And finally the Mill just googled “repair leaky hull” in an attempt to shoehorn a needless nautical metaphor into the story of West Brom’s interest in Jonny Evans and discovered that “the granddaddy of all leaks is the leaky hull-to-deck join”, a fact comfortably more interesting than Albion’s attempts to sign the Manchester United defender and therefore a fine place to end.

Premier League football star Diafra Sakho is arrested for 'threatening to kill a girlfriend' just days after allegedly assaulting her

West Ham United striker was arrested at Essex home on Sunday
Released on bail as allegations of threat and intimidation investigated
Comes a fortnight after £15 million forward questioned over assault claim
25-year-old rumoured to be expecting a child with girlfriend Mya Hassan

By Euan McLelland

West Ham United star Diafra Sakho has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and witness intimidation, according to reports.

The striker, 25, was arrested on Sunday night before being bailed.

The incident came after the £15 million rated striker had previously been questioned over an alleged assault earlier this month.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: 'On Sunday August 23, officers from Havering arrested a man on suspicion of threats to kill and witness intimidation.

'A 25-year-old man was arrested an an address in Emerson Park, Hornchurch. He was taken to an east London police station and bailed pending police enquiries to a date in early October.'

A spokesman for the player told The Sun: 'Diafra Sakho has not been charged with any offence. He vigorously denies the allegations that have been made against him, and has given police a complete explanation of events.

'He will not be making any further comment.'

Police have not revealed the identity of the alleged victim, but it is believed that it could be the Senagalese international's girlfriend Mya Hassan.

It has recently been rumoured that the 29-year-old model is pregnant with the footballer's second child.

Sakho joined West Ham in August last year and has scored 12 goals for the team in 26 Premier League appearances.

He is described as 'quick, strong and an outstanding athlete' on the West Ham website, which also says he has 'taken to life in the Premier League like a duck to water'.

The profile describes him as a 'quietly confident striker'. He played in West Ham's second home match of the season on Saturday, in which the London side lost 4-3 to Bournemouth.

Before joining the club, he previously played for French side FC Metz.

The club could not be reached for comment.

Modibo Maiga leaves West Ham to join Al Nassr, Saudi club report

West Ham have sold forward Modibo Maiga to Al Nassr FC, the Saudi Arabian side said on Monday.

Al Nassr's official Twitter account said the striker has signed a two-year deal, but there was no immediate confirmation on their website or from West Ham.

A Hammers spokesperson told Press Association that no deal has been confirmed yet.

- AlNassr FC (@AlNassrSaudiFCe) August 24, 2015

Maiga, 27, came on as a substitute in all three of West Ham's games this season, even scoring a late consolation goal for West Ham on Saturday during their 4-3 loss to Bournemouth.

The Mali international spent last season out on loans at Queens Park Rangers and FC Metz in France.

He scored seven games for West Ham since joining from Sochaux in 2012.

The tweet from @AlNassrSaudiFCe read: "#ALNASSR signed a 2 year contract with former @whufc_official's forward, Modibo Maiga. Congratulations." Maiga joined West Ham for £4.7million from Sochaux three years ago but has since had loans at QPR and Metz. If he does leave, he does so having scored in West Ham's 4-3 defeat to Bournemouth in the Barclays Premier League last weekend.

Roma director flies into London for £13.1m transfer talks with Everton and West Ham

ROMA sporting director Walter Sabatini has reportedly flown to London to offload Juan Iturbe on a Premier League club.

By Joe Short

Both West Ham and Everton reportedly want to sign Roma's Juan Iturbe (left)

Iturbe, 22, is free to leave Roma this summer after the club signed Mohamed Salah from Chelsea earlier this month.

Sabatini will hold talks with both Everton and West Ham counterparts in the capital as he seeks the best deal for the Serie A club, claim Gazzetta dello Sport.

Italian sides Fiorentina and Genoa are also believed to be keen on Iturbe.

The winger, who can also play up front, joined Roma from Verona in 2014, having previously played for Porto.

The Argentine, who earned one cap for Paraguay before switching international allegiances, made 37 appearances for Roma last season and scored four goals.

Gazetta claim West Ham see Iturbe - once a transfer target of Arsenal and Liverpool - as their second priority as they zone in on signing Simone Zaza on loan from Juventus.

Which leaves Everton as supposed favourites to secure Iturbe's signature, with the Toffees reportedly preparing a £13.1million bid.

Manager Roberto Martinez has already said he wants to make three more signings before deadline day, with Dynamo Kiev for forward Andriy Yarmolenko and Shakhtar Donetsk's Bernard in the pipeline to follow defender Ramiro Funes Mori to the club.

Roma, however, are said to be holding out for £14.6m for Iturbe as they seek to recoup most of what they paid Verona for the player just last summer.
